Indore, the city with such a rich culture and heritage is situated at the heart of Madhya Pradesh and presently is the 14th most populous city of India. By becoming the cleanest city of India for the fourth consecutive year, Indore is currently the talk of the town.
To witness yet another evolution of advancement and prosperity, Indore city is actively enhancing adaptation towards the industrial and cosmopolitan approach. Indore was selected in the first top 20 smart cities of India. One of the key areas of focus is to gracefully embrace the changes and developments needed to transform it into a smart city. It is in the process of metamorphosing the character and livability of the city and at the same time rejuvenating its economy and heritage while enhancing its resilience and sustainability.
In recent times, Indore is experiencing a multifold increase in the traffic flow, which has resulted in an increase in accidents. As the area is widespread, it lacks moderate availability of streetlights all across the city. The persistent streetlights are required to ensure maximum visibility and safety of citizens during the commute. Under the Indore Smart City project, a long-term solution for managing and maintaining the streetlights effectively and efficiently was the necessity.
Being the homegrown company of India, Bajaj Electricals has always believed in creating innovative products and high-end solutions for its customer. The company offers a wide range of smart lighting ideas wherein the whole city light can be controlled by a single software (through mobile or laptop/ system) sitting anywhere in the world. Smart City officials were convinced by this innovative idea and with the help of a consultant, survey & design officials of the road infrastructure, work for the installation of streetlights was initiated.
With immense experience and expertise, the company absolutely understands the responsibility that has been awarded and started working towards achieving the end goal. Bajaj Electricals team encountered various challenges during this journey, especially with the modification in the technical specifications of the existing fixture, it seemed difficult at one point to supply at the desired time.
The requirement of submission of various lab tests within the stipulated time period was a big challenge too. Fixture wattage was going below the requirement of tender. Being in the illumination business for decades, Bajaj Electricals has always believed that different projects will come with their binding obstacles. In this particular scenario, the time frame was the biggest challenge.
Multiple tenders come with various complexities, in terms of difficult road terrains, inaccessible areas without street lights. The management decided to support Indore based contractor who can manage such cumbersome tasks skillfully and ensure positive outcomes.
The key factor that led to the success of the project was effortless integration with various departments, consultants and contractor throughout the project. The challenges faced were accepted and every commitment was delivered at the designated timeline. Also, all the teams involved right from planning to the execution played a vital role in overcoming all the challenges.
This particular noteworthy achievement assisted Bajaj Electricals team to successfully supply 14, 000 street lights in various wattages, 200 units of smart panels and 400 units of light poles.
Needless to say, with the constant determination and efforts of the team involved in the project, Bajaj Electricals successfully completed the project of central lighting poles that erected between Choithram Hospital and Silicon City on AB Road in the given time frame. The company successfully installed its first smart city project in India with smart panel supply, street lights (group control) & poles. Smart panels with feeder control mapping, supervision, commissioning, operation and maintenance for 5 years. City’s various main roads and central lighting were covered under the project.
The project was inaugurated by the then Honourable MP, Mr. Jitu Patwari for Rau constituency. The facility is expected to avert accidents that take place in the absence of the street light.
Despite all the odds, the team acted as the backbone of the entire project and ensured that all processes were conducted smoothly without any interruption. Bajaj Electricals strongly believes that challenges are the real motivation that helps achieve complicated goals with zero negligence and absolute perfection. The robust collaboration and teamwork helped to overcome all the challenges and successfully conclude the project for the Indore smart city.
